1099 forms: what you might get
1099-NEC, 1099-K, and what to do if you don't get one.
Businesses and platforms report some payments to the IRS on 1099 forms. You report all your income either way.
Common forms
- Form 1099-NEC: from a business that paid you as a contractor
- Form 1099-K: from payment apps and online marketplaces, above reporting thresholds
- Form 1099-MISC: for some other payments
Good to know
- Income is taxable even if no form arrives
- Check forms against your own records and ask for corrections if they're wrong
- Personal payments, like splitting a dinner bill, shouldn't be business income; keep them separate
General information. Reporting thresholds have changed in recent years; check IRS.gov. Penny Boosters isn't paid by any gig app or platform.
